Teamed with fellow producer Cy Feuer, Ernest H. Martin produced some of the most popular musicals in American theater. Occasionally they translated their success onto the big screen with such efforts as Cabaret (1972) and A Chorus Line (1985). Feuer and Martin were co-producers for over 50 years and together were responsible for such extravaganzas as Guys and Dolls (1950), which won them their first Tony, and Can-Can (1953). Other films produced by Martin and Feuer include the French language biography of Edith Piaf, Piaf (1975). Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but raised in Los Angeles, Martin majored in journalism at UCLA, He started out working as a page for CBS radio. By the time he left, he had been appointed head of the comedy-programming division. Martin and Feuer met in Los Angeles.
