Before making his directorial debut in 1950 with Turri the Bandit, Enzo Trapani was a set decorator and assistant to a few Italian filmmakers. He made six feature musical comedies and one serious drama before turning to television in the '60s. Trapani was influential in helping a number of Italy's best-known comedians get their start. He was also an innovator of variety shows.
