University of Miami and Columbia alumnus Elliot Kastner entered the Hollywood work force as a talent agent. Kastner turned to producing in 1965 with Universal's Bus Riley's Back in Town then ventured into international productions, including Where Eagles Dare (1969), X Y and Zee (1973) and Equus (1977). He is best known for his trio of Raymond Chandler adaptations: The Long Goodbye (1973), Farewell My Lovely (1975) and The Big Sleep (1978). With notable exceptions like the notorious Angel Heart (1987), Elliot Kastner's most recent films have not always measured up to his previous successes.
