At 6'2" and 235 pounds, former vaudevillian Pomeroy Cannon, nicknamed "Doc," made quite an impression in films of the early '20s, especially playing Madriaga, the Argentinean cattle baron in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921). Appearing on-stage for 12 years under the management of David Belasco and Charles Frohman, Cannon also performed as a minstrel singer and was a popular vaudeville star before entering films playing the marshal in Douglas Fairbanks' Western spoof The Good Bad Man (1916).
