A former newspaper reporter, Daniel Whitcomb became one of the busiest screenwriters of the early silent era, churning out scripts for Balboa, Keystone, American, Universal, and producer Samuel Goldwyn. Retiring on his laurels in the mid-'20s, Whitcomb later claimed to have authored "more than 200 photoplays."
