Though frequent Elia Kazan collaborator Charles Henry Maguire began his career in the film industry in the early 1950s while working as a prop man in New York's Local 52, Maguire's big break came when he was hired as assistant director to Kazan after interviewing for property master on On the Waterfront. A native New Yorker, Maguire was tutored by director Robert Aldrich and moved to Los Angeles in the mid-'60s to find frequent work as a producer and assistant director on such films as Fail-Safe (1964) and The Sand Peebles (1966). He continued his collaborations with Kazan on films like America, America (1963) and 1969's The Arrangement, remaining loyal to the man who had given him the opportunity to expand his career and abilities.

Eschewing assistant directing for producer credits through the late '60s and into the '70s, Maguire served as senior VP of production for Paramount and Lucas Films in the 1980s. The '90s found Maguire back in the role of producer on such films as Kenneth Branagh's Dead Again (1991) and the second Jack Ryan thriller, Patriot Games (1992). On January 15, 2000, Charles Henry Maguire died of natural causes at the age of 73.
