Biography by Hans J. Wollstein

A darkly handsome leading lady of the 1910s, Catherine Calvert had starred on Broadway in Brown of Harvard, Deep Purple and Romance of the Underworld, the latter written by her playwright husband Paul Armstrong (of Alias Jimmy Valentino fame). Widowed by Armstrong in 1915, Calvert entered films the following year and in 1918 recreated her role in a popular screen version of Romance of the Underworld. She left films in 1923.
