Entering films as an actor with the Lubin Company in 1911, Burton King switched to directing in 1914. King's Hollywood career as a producer/director spanned fourteen years, ending with 1928's Adorable Cheat. For the most part, he contented himself with programmers, featuring such second-echelon actors as Frank Montgomery and Lila Lee. Burton King was married to screen actress Adele Lane.
