• While working as a researcher on the current affairs program World in Action, worked with future filmmaker Paul Greengrass.
• Became the controller of comedy for Granada television in 1992, before taking the role of controller of drama in 2000. Under his watch, acclaimed programs such as The Royle Family, The Mrs Merton Show and The Deal were commissioned.
• His daughter, Emmy Lou, was conceived through IVF treatment. Harries would directly work this experience into the storyline of ITV drama, Cold Feet.
• Formed the British production house Left Bank Pictures in 2007. It became the first production house to receive investment from the BBC.
