A native New Yorker, Albert Russell began his screen career acting in locally filmed Thanhouser productions alongside his more famous brother, William Russell. Becoming a director in the late 1910s, Russell worked mainly in Universal two-reel Westerns but also helmed such serials as The Lion Man (1919) with newcomer Jack Perrin and The Secret Four starring Eddie Polo. In his final years, Albert Russell operated a laundry business. He died of pneumonia mere weeks after brother William Russell had suffered the same fate.
