As one of the two or three most revered Egyptian scenarists of the 20th century, Abdel Hay Adeeb authored around 122 screenplays for feature films over the course of several decades. Director Youssef Chahine's well-received ensemble drama Cairo Station (1958) constitutes Adeeb's best known and most esteemed work. He also penned the scripts for such Arabic-language films as Al Marmalik (1965) and Mothakerat Morahkah, a picture infamous and controversial for its groundbreaking feminist themes and evocation of blossoming female sexuality. Adeeb died at age 82 in June 2007.
