The screenwriter responsible for such features as the James Dean classic Giant (1956) and the John Frankenheimer thriller Black Sunday, and the producer of both A Place in the Sun (1951) and Shane (1953), Ivan Moffat's three-decade tenure in Hollywood produced films of both touching sentiment and nail-biting suspense. A Cuban native, Moffat studied at the London College of Economics before joining the Army during World War II and covering the Allies' efforts in documentary form. On July 4, 2002, Ivan Moffat died of a stroke in Los Angeles, CA. He was 84.
