Synopsis by Alice Day

The many inventions of Thomas Alva Edison transformed the lives of millions, and in Famous Americans of the 20th Century: Story of Thomas A. Edison, some of his developments are highlighted. These include the phonograph, incandescent light, and a movie camera. In all, Edison obtained 1,093 patents, and was known as the "Wizard of Menlo Park" for his untiring work on inventions. The payment for work done on a stock ticker enabled him to open his own labs, giving him the freedom to pursue his many interests. This program also gives an account of his early years, and touches on his friendship with Henry Ford.
