Synopsis by Mark Deming
After spending close to a decade as the frontman and comic foil for one of America's biggest hard rock bands, Van Halen, David Lee Roth stepped out on his own in 1985, and just as Van Halen's career received a boost when they began making videos for MTV airplay, Roth's crazed vision was best expressed through the promo clips he made for his debut solo EP Crazy From the Heat and his full-length follow-up Eat 'em and Smile. David Lee Roth: Videos collects four early solo clips from Diamond Dave, "California Girls," "Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody," "Yankee Rose," and "Goin' Crazy!"
