Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This film is a fine presentation of the symbiotic relationship between Baroque music and Baroque dance. The Baroque style of music composition flourished in Europe from 1600 to the mid-1700s. Baroque music was characterized by chromaticism, strict forms, and elaborate flourishes. The Baroque dance style was equally as stately and structured. The keyboard music of the Baroque period was directly affected by the rhythm, tempo, and form of the choreography of the dances. The emotional quality of the music captures the mood of the physical movements of the dance. Baroque keyboard play can be enhanced by watching the dances shown in the film.
