Just when it appeared that cult filmmaker Hisayasu Sato had burned out after directing over 30 films in the previous three years, he delivered this outstanding pinku-eiga classic for Shintoho. Based on a true story in which a woman committed murder while under the influence of a prescription sleep-aid, the film deals with a brothel where the prostitutes are kept in a somnambulant state of perpetual submission with the same drug. One of the women apparently has enough of her senses about her to realize that there's a psycho gorily murdering her fellow hookers, or does she? Trippy and surreal, this is one of Sato's best films, with segments reminiscent of Suspiria to interest genre fans. As if that weren't enough, the film includes a brief appearance by Kazumasa Sagawa, who murdered and partially cannibalized his girlfriend while studying in Paris, becoming a strange sort of cult figure upon his return to Japan. Kiyomi Ito stars with Takeshi Ito, Tori Asano, and Sato regular Mineo Sugiura.
