The first in a long series of films based on the dark adult comic books of Takashi Ishii, this rape thriller from the famed Nikkatsu Studios caused controversy for its themes and heavily Freudian style. Chusei Sone directed the film, which stars Machiko Ootani and Sansho Fukami in the story of the violent aftermath of a cheerleader's brutal gang-rape by juvenile delinquents at a suburban high school. Stylish and filled with symbolism (particularly involving water), the series is not for all viewers, but fans of Dario Argento and Brian DePalma should be riveted, especially to the better sequels which followed.
