Conny, an East-German longshoreman, refuses to inform on his boss who plans to defect, but Conny's best friend Andi does, causing a rift between the two. Andi ends up in a coma after being struck by a car, and Conny decides to defect. Upon waking, Andi is rewarded with a government job, but Conny is soon seized by authorities. Andi, using his new position, attempts to get his old pal out of his dangerous situation.
