Synopsis by Nathan Southern
Polish director Tadeusz Chmielewski's whimsical 1974 comedy Wiosna, Panie Sierzancie! (AKA It's Spring, Sergeant) transpires in an idyllic and lyrical (yet apocryphal) town on the banks of the Vistula River in Poland. The local police chief Wladyslaw Lichniak, it seems, never actually graduated from high school and very badly needs a secondary school diploma. He sets about trying to obtain one, and the villagers all get behind him, but it remains unclear if he will accomplish his goal without constant interference from the well-meaning townspeople.
