Synopsis by Bhob Stewart

S. Pierre Yameogo wrote and directed this Burkina Faso-French drama about corruption in a West African town where a black businessman and Lebanese merchants compete for a government rice contract which promises big profits. Mouni (Amadou Bourou) thinks the contract is his, but he encounters problems from the wealthy Jabert brothers, who are involved with the government's money-laundering. The story looks at the underbelly of African politics, uncovering bribery and the exploitation of blacks. Shown at the 1998 Toronto Film Festival.
