Synopsis by Janiss Garza

When her mother suddenly dies, 18-year-old Mary Ellen Martin (Elsie Albert) is left to care for her eight younger siblings. Their farm is lost, but Mary finds some hidden money and uses it to move the brood to the big city. The only problem is that most landlords (rather understandably) don't want to rent to a young girl and eight children. Issac Cohen (Sidney Franklin) and his wife (Orpha Alba) take the kids in for a night, and the next day Mary lies to get the children into a nice apartment house. One of the tenants, Dr. Randall (George Sherwood), is surprised to see children passing through on a dumbwaiter, and when he goes to investigate he meets Mary. It turns out that the building is infested with crooks and swindlers, all far more undesirable than a group of kids. One crook, a jewel thief, is unmasked by the oldest Martin boy. After that, the landlady is more than happy to welcome the children into her apartment building, and Dr. Randall welcomes the brood -- and Mary especially -- into his life.
