Like many another film of its era, Warfare of the Flesh opened with a prologue set in the Garden of Eden. After the usual re-creation of Adam and Eve's fall from grace, the film flashes forward to modern times, where an allegorical drama is played out for the next several reels. This time around, the "Adam" and "Eve" roles are assumed by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gregory (Harry Benham, Charlotte Ives, who succumb to the Forbidden Fruit of adultery. The last reel of the film was something of a cheat, with the audience being led to expect one sort of ending, only to find out that the events leading up to the climax may never have really happened! One suspects that Warfare of the Flesh was written by committee, with the members of that committee seldom speaking to each other.
