Synopsis by Mark Deming

The New York Stock Exchange is one of the most powerful financial centers in the world, with each day's trading making a powerful impact not just on the American economy, but by extension on business dealings around the world. Filmmaker Andreas Hoessli brought at camera crew to New York City and spent a year following the wheeling and dealing at the stock exchange and capturing the ideas and motives of the traders who work there. The result, Wall Street: A Wondering Trip is a documentary which examines the nuts and bolts of American finance, as well as the myriad ways in which class, race, gender, politics, and war impact the market (the film captures the market slump which reflected the early days of the War in Iraq). Wall Street: A Wondering Trip was screened as part of the 2004 Vancouver International Film Festival.
