Synopsis by Janiss Garza

This comedy was adapted from the successful stage play, and several Broadway actors, including the two leads, reprised their roles on film. Nell Jones (Mary Ryan) and Jack Doogan (Harry Mestayer) are a pair of crooks who want to get married and go straight. But to accomplish their goal, they have to pull off one last heist. Nell procures employment as a maid in the Carr's upscale home. Since one of the daughters is getting married the next day, she sees an opportunity to really clean up so she calls Doogan who arrives, disguised as a detective -- two of the people at the house (Harold Howard and Albert Tavernier) believe they are kleptomaniacs and want him around to keep them from stealing. The rest of the film shows various valuable (and not-so-valuable) items disappearing and then floating around from guest to guest in an almost magical fashion. A real detective (Dan Moyles) shows up and Nell and Doogan are eventually caught. But since they reveal their plans to get married and lead honest lives, the two are forgiven. The Carrs have multiple wedding at their home, and Doogan bestows some "souvenirs" on the detective -- his own star, watch and chain, and handcuffs.
