Phantasm is an American supernatural horror film about a small-town teenager, Mike, who discovers that the local mortician is actually a malevolent being who is reanimating the dead and turning them into monstrous slaves. Mike persuades his older brother and a family friend to battle the otherworldly threat. The protagonist is also grieving the death of his parents and on the cusp of young adulthood. The imagery alternates between mundane and surreal, blurring the lines between reality and nightmare while exploring the larger themes of confrontation with death, grief, and coming of age.
