When the submarine Angier is lost at sea, Nelson (Richard Basehart) and Crane (David Hedison) investigate and discover that the captain and first officer -- previously the best of friends -- turned on each other, after a few hours' stay on a mysterious island. They head to the same island and are captured and subjected to brainwashing that turns the two into bitter enemies.
