Voices and Visions: Langston Hughes celebrates the life and work of the influential and prolific writer Langston Hughes. Hughes is best known for his vivid and insightful portrayal of black life in America from the '20s through the '60s. His life and work were inestimably important in shaping the Harlem Renaissance of the '20s. The video features Hughes reading his own work. Interviews, music, and dance performances interpret his writing and his influence. Author James Baldwin, poets Leopold Sedar Senghor and Gwendolyn Brooks, and biographer Arnold Rampersad provide commentary.
