While British aristocrat Frank Armour (Milton Sills) is away in northwestern Canada, his fiancee breaks off their engagement. Frank is convinced that his parents are to blame, and to disgrace them, he marries a half-breed, Lali (Mabel Julienne Scott), and sends her home to England. But when she arrives, Frank's brother, Richard (Elliot Dexter), takes her under his wing and teaches her how to behave like a British aristocrat. Frank, meanwhile, is still in Canada, turning into a barroom bum. He finally pulls himself together and returns home to discover that 1) Lali has not only become an accepted member of his snobby family, she is one of its most popular members, and 2) He has a son he didn't even know about. So he and Lali are happily reunited and all questions of racial prejudice are blithely swept under the carpet (as they so often were in 1920). This picture was based on the novel, The Translation of a Savage, by Sir. Gilbert Parker, and was remade as a talkie in 1935.
