Synopsis by Janiss Garza
Nearly the only possession left by Mr. Bell to his children Joy (Elinor Fair) and Harry (Jack Rollens) is a thoroughbred named Vagabond, who unfortunately is past his prime as a racehorse. Harry, a compulsive gambler, puts Vagabond in a race and mortgages their only other possession -- their home -- to back him to the fullest. Joy, meanwhile, has befriended Jimmie Driscoll (Albert Ray) who has been fired from a neighboring stable for being overweight. It turns out that Vagabond comes alive in mud, so the Bells pray for rain and a thunderstorm actually comes. But the bookmakers are afraid of losing all their money to the longshot, so they terrorize the Bell's jockey. No matter -- Jimmie picks up the reins and takes Vagabond to victory, winning Joy's hand in the bargain.
