Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
Ramchandra Thakur directs this marital melodrama about the two grown daughters of a respected Muslim council member from Kathiawar. The elder daughter -- a social conservative, uneducated lass -- is married to a prominent political prisoner, Pushkar, who is in jail. The younger daughter is married to the ambitionless yet westernized Kirikumari. After a complicated series of incidents involving Pushkar's mother, a common criminal, and a group of accountants, the film climaxes with Pushkar getting killed. This film was based on a play written by Desh Nataka Samaj.
