Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

Released on the tenth anniversary of the brutal war in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), filmmaker Lisa F. Jackson's harrowing documentary ventures into the heart of darkness to tell the stories of the women who have been brutalized, raped, and killed by the soldiers who wield sexual violence as a weapon of war. In addition to traveling to the remote villages of the Congo to speak with the rape survivors who endured unspeakable atrocities at the hands of their male tormentors, Jackson also interviews the Congolese soldiers responsible for the crimes - many of whom recount their transgressions with chilling indifference. As Jackson shares the story of her own rape with her traumatized subjects, a bond of common understanding is formed that allows the women to speak openly and honestly about their horrifying wartime experiences.
