Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Filmed in New York, this Kalem two-reeler was purportedly based on the exploits of notorious underworld figure Humpty Jackson. Injured in a childhood accident, a tenement boy grows up with a grotesquely deformed backbone. Upon attaining adulthood, the hunchbacked boy swears vengeance on all humanity by becoming a criminal. Meanwhile, the young lady who innocently caused the hunchback's injury grows up living under a cloud of guilt and self-recrimination. Upon relocating the girl, Humpy venomously insists that she marry him to make up for her past misdeeds. But by film's end, Humpy himself has developed a conscience, and gallantly bows out of the girl's life.
