A man struggles to document supernatural creatures in this drama based on a true story. After the death of his wife only a day following their wedding, photographer Charles Castle (Toby Stephens) tries to immerse himself in his work and searches for a larger meaning in life as a battlefield photographer during WWI. Upon returning to civilian life, Castle and his friend Roy (Philip Davis) open a successful photography studio as Castle becomes involved with a group studying the paranormal in hopes of communicating with his late wife. Some of the members present photographs of angels and other supernatural creatures, which Castle can easily prove are faked; however, when Beatrice Templeton (Frances Barber) shows him a photo of children playing with fairies in her garden, he's unsure if it's real or a hoax. Eager to believe, Castle wants to see the fairies for himself, but Beatrice's husband, the iron-willed Rev. Templeton (Ben Kingsley), believes that faith alone should be proof enough for him. Edward Hardwicke also appears as noted author and supernatural seeker Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The same true-life incident was also the basis of the film Fairy Tale: A True Story, released the same year.
