Synopsis by Janiss Garza
When his wife (Catherine Lewis) has a daughter instead of a son, James Harrington (Harry Van Meter) decides he doesn't want it. The baby changes hands several times, from the butler to the doctor to a gang of thieves, who wind up raising her. Peggy (played as an adolescent by Frances Edmonds) works as a newsie. One of her customers, attorney George Bentley (George Larkin), saves her from the cops and helps her go to school. When he sees how pretty she is in a dress, his interest becomes romantic. Peggy reveals the whereabouts of notorious crook Spike Kelly (Earl Schaefer) to the cops -- he happens to be one of her foster father's gang. But when she goes to save the man who raised her from arrest, the crooks take her with them on a housebreaking job. She manages to escape and wins the reward for Kelly's capture. Bentley, meanwhile, has discovered her true identity and he also helps reconcile Harrington and his wife. This picture was directed by Elsier LaMaie, who also wrote the novel on which it was based.
