Synopsis by Hal Erickson
"Not the Tropic of Cancer, or the Tropic of Capricorn, but our very own little English Tropic." Thus read the original advertisements for this six-part British drama series, which debuted July 29, 1979 over ITV. The scene was Ruislip, an executive housing estate in a fashionable section of coastal England. The stories dealt with the various peccadillos of the oversexed and ethically challenged residents of the estate. Based on a novel by Leslie Thomas, Tropic abruptly left the air after a single episode due to an ITV strike. The series ran its remaining five half-hour installments from November 24 to December 15, 1979, by which time audience interest had dwindled to practically nothing.
