The out-of-this-world adventures of 24th-century Space Academy 'solar guards' (one of them from Venus) were all over the networks in the early 1950s. 'Space Cadet' even aired simultaneously on ABC (in prime time) and NBC, which carried kinescopes of old episodes on Saturday mornings. Based on a novel by Robert A. Heinlein, the series spawned books of its own, as well as a comic book and a Sunday-newspaper strip, and a 1952 ABC radio series. Science writer Willie Ley was an advisor.
