Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Alice Guy Blache, the motion picture industry's first woman director, called the shots on the full-blooded mellerdrammer The Woman of Mystery. Claire Whitney, who starred in several of Blache's pre-WWI films, is cast as a sinister Oriental princess who murders an actress by sending the poor woman a gift-box filled with poisonous snakes. The "heroine" then sets her sights on the detective investigating the murder, literally taking over the gumshoe's mind. Just why she does this is never explained -- but then, she only has four reels of screen time at her disposal. Woman of Mystery was released by Alice Guy Blache's own Solax company.
