Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Taped in December 2002 at the R.J. Reynolds Auditorium in Winston-Salem, NC, this PBS concert special immortalizes the historic teaming of three legendary bluegrass performers: Earl Scruggs on banjo, Doc Watson on guitar, and Ricky Skaggs on mandolin. The trio's repertoire is highlighted by such selections as "What Would You Give?," "Foggy Mountain Top," and "Feast Here Tonight." Also on hand is guest star Alison Krauss, performing the traditional ballad "Down in the Valley." The Three Pickers: Legends of American Music originally aired as an episode of the public-TV anthology Great Performances.
