This episodic melodrama was adapted from the novel The Mysterious Mr. Trent, by Wyndham Martyn. The father of Nan Lambert (Billie Rhodes) is kidnapped and confined to an asylum by the crooked Conington Warren (William Horne) and his associates. Warren keeps documents concerning his villainy in a safe, and he has its combination hidden in his watch. Nan sets out to get the watch, and during her efforts, she frequently runs into Anthony Trent (Truman van Dyke). Although he won't reveal his motives, Trent is always more than helpful to her. Just when Nan and Trent are about to break the case, Trent falls into a trap and is almost drowned. The district attorney rescues him, and Nan is able to get her father released. Warren's part in the scheme is revealed before Trent explains his part in the whole situation -- he is a news reporter, and for his efforts, he has just been promoted to managing editor.
