Synopsis by Nathan Southern

For well over a century, The New York Public Library has played a pivotal and unprecedented role in the literary and cultural education of Americans. Many have learned to read in its hallowed halls, including immigrants and children; hundreds of artists and writers have culled inspiration from the volumes on its shelves. Now, the PBS release The People's Palace pays homage to this vital institution with The People's Palace, one of the first documentary explorations of the NYPL, its history and its vast array of resources.
