Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Pioneering woman director Lois Weber scripted the 4-reel The Opened Shutters from a novel by Clara Louise Burnham. The title refers symbolically to the invisible shutters people construct around themselves so that their true natures remain hidden to the world. Anna Little stars as an insecure, ugly-duckling New England lass who is emotionally abused by her stern and inflexible Aunt and Uncle. She is rescued from this situation by the kindly William Worthington, the person ever to treat the heroine like a woman instead of a drudge. Later on, she is taken under the wing of a wealthy matron, who finances the girl's art-school education. Achieving wealth and celebrity with her artistic skills, Little enjoys a happily-ever-after life as the wife of millionaire (Herbert Rawlinson).
