synopsis
The central theme of the Japanese Mistress can be summed up in a single word: "Shame." The principal character, played by Hideko Takamine is a proud woman who sells herself into marriage with an industrialist in order to provide for her impoverished father. Upon discovering that her wedding was a sham, the woman must endure the disgrace of being a mistress. Worse still, she is denied the balm of true romance when she falls hopelessly in love with a young medical student. Directed by Shiro Toyoda in a more serious vein than usual, Mistress has also been released as Wild Geese.
