Synopsis by Nathan Southern

Situated in Central Java, the temple of Borobudur continues to draw spectators for its fascinating and unprecedented architectural design. Shaped like a pyramid, it contains four square terraces connected to three circular ones, with walls covered by over three miles of ornate and detailed carvings. For these reasons, it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that some have deemed the temple "The 8th Wonder of the World." Curiously, though, it lay deserted and undiscovered for over 1000 years, until Englishman Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles happened upon it. This revealing documentary explores various nuances of the structure following an early 21st Century renovation of the over 1.6 million blocks of stone that comprise it. In the process, the film begins to solve enigmas about Borobudur that many felt impossible to answer.
