synopsis
The Lodger is the first suspense film made by Alfred Hitchcock and contains some of the techniques and themes that later made Hitchcock the king of the genre. The story is set at a boarding house and centers upon a certain lodger who finds himself accused of being Jack the Ripper by a detective whose motives in making the accusation may be less than pure. Terrified of going to prison, the innocent lodger flees with the ruthless detective and eventually a crazed mob in hot pursuit.
