Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This program is the first volume in a four-part series, produced by the Arts and Entertainment Network, that examines the Impressionist art movement in France. The idea of the free use of color and light to depict scenes of nature and common life was revolutionary indeed. The series looks at some of the major proponents of the new aesthetic sensibility, including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, and Pissaro. Numerous works illustrate the program, and are accompanied by the commentary of artists and art historians. Journals and letters shed light on the private lives of the artists of the Impressionist revolution.
