Synopsis by Mark Deming
The Guess Who were Canada's first internationally successful rock band, scoring number one hits in the United States and Great Britain as well as in their homeland thought the 1970s. While the group splintered after guitarist Randy Bachman left to form Bachman-Turner Overdrive and vocalist Burton Cummings split for a solo career, in 2000 Bachman and Cummings joined forces with original drummer Garry Peterson and longtime bandmates Donnie McDougal and Bill Wallace for an enthusiastically received reunion tour. The Guess Who: Running Back Thru Canada was recorded during the group's homecoming show in Winnipeg, in which a sudden storm couldn't dampen the spirits of either the Guess Who or their audience. Selections include "American Woman," "Share the Land," "These Eyes," "Rain Dance," "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature," "Runnin' Back to Saskatoon," "Laughing," and more.
