A man in the autumn of his years wonders what to make of the time he has left in this bittersweet comedy-drama from Chile. Nelson Villagra is a college professor who after years of teaching physics has been forced to take retirement. Nelson isn't happy about having to give up his work, a situation made all the more painful after the recent death of his wife. As Nelson tries to make sense of his future and wonders if it's worth the trouble to go on, two close friends surprise him with a special present -- a vacation at a special seniors resort in Chillán. What Nelson's friends don't tell him is they've also arranged for one of his former girlfriends who is now single to be there; the attempt to play matchmaker ends in disaster, but Nelson does have an experience that gives him a new perspective on life. El Regalo (aka The Gift) wad directed by Cristián Galaz and Andrea Ugalde; it was Ugalde's first feature film and Galaz's second after a ten-year layoff from theatrical films.
