Synopsis by Hal Erickson

D.W. Griffith's last 1909 production, The Englishman and the Girl starred Griffith regulars Charles Craig and Mary Pickford. A foppish Englishman arrives in a small town where the locals are about to stage an amateur "Wild West" play. Spotting the actors in their Indian costumes, the Englishman becomes convinced that the village is under siege by hostile tribesmen. A couple of local practical jokers decide to have some fun with the impressionable visitor by "attacking" him in the street. But the Englishman routs the pranksters with the help of a prop revolver supplied to him by the heroine. Like most Biograph releases of the period, The Englishman and the Girl ran a few feet shy of a full reel.
