Synopsis by Mark Deming

As a director, Sidney Lumet cut his teeth in live television during the 1950s, and moved up to the big screen with the screen adaptation of the TV play Twelve Angry Men. Since then, Lumet's lean, no-nonsense style and coolly intelligent New York attitude has helped him craft a number of classic motion pictures, including Network, Dog Day Afternoon, The Verdict, Serpico, and Fail-Safe. The Directors: Sidney Lumet is a documentary which offers an in-depth look at Lumet's career in filmmaking; along with an interview with Lumet and clips from his films, this documentary includes contributions from a number of the actors who worked with him, including Jack Lemmon, Ossie Davis, Christopher Walken, Melanie Griffith, Dyan Cannon, and more.
