No doubt inspired by MGM's The Merry Widow (1925), small-scale company Chadwick Pictures brought Franz Lehár's 1909 The Count of Luxembourg to the screen the following year as a vehicle for the waning George Walsh. Former Ziegfeld girl Helen Lee Worthing played Angela Didier, an actress prevented from marrying Duke Rutzinoff (Michael Dark) because of her lack of a title. Rutzinoff, however, persuades the girl to marry the impoverished Count of Luxembourg (Walsh) by proxy. According to the plan, Angela was then supposed to divorce Luxembourg and wed Rutzinoff, but all bets are off when she suddenly finds herself in love with her new husband. Leading man Walsh, a major star until summarily replaced by Ramon Novarro as Ben-Hur (1925), was the brother of actor-director Raoul Walsh.
